The Directorate of Town and Country Planning was established in the year 1971. It is tasked with the role of planning, development, management and improvement of urban and rural areas. Urbanization has been increasing rapidly in the state in the last three decades. Cities have been contributing more to the economic development of the state. Leveraging technology will ensure planned development that will bring greater economic and social benefits to the state.
Mission
To prepare regional plans for the state for efficient management of land.
To prepare master plans for urban areas for sustainable growth of those urban areas.
To review existing master plans to cater the present land use requirements of the public.
To prepare detailed development plans for an oriented urban growth.
To use infrastructure and amenities fund to improve and strengthen basic amenities in urban areas.
Functions
To notify regional planning area, local planning area, new town development area and detailed development plan area.
To constitute regional planning authorities, local planning authorities, new town development authorities and urban development authorities.
To prepare regional plan, master plan, new town development plan and detailed development plan.
To approve layouts and plans for buildings.
To enforce statutory obligations as set out in the act.
To assist the local bodies on planning permission.
