To regulate the developments in and around urban centers like Corporation/ Municipality/ Town panchayat Local Planning areas are notified and declared under sub-section 1(b) and 4 respectively, of section 10 of Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning (TNTCP) Act, 1971 for which Local Planning Authorities are constituted under sub-section 3 of section 11 of the Act.
If the declared Local Planning Area comprises more than one Local body, then it is called as Composite Local Planning Area and the authority constituted is called Composite Local Planning Authority.
If the declared Local Planning Area comprises only one Local body, then it is called as Single Local Planning Area and the authority constituted is called Single Local Planning Authority.
