Areas of special characteristics like industrial, tourism etc., are notified as New Town Areas under section 10 of Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning (TNTCP) Act, 1971.
Authority for the New Town Area viz., New Town Development Authority (NTDA) is constituted under sub-section 4 of section 11 of TNTCP Act,1971.
There are 8 NTDAs functioning within the respective District TCP offices.
